From Mark 5.1-20 comes the story of Jesus’ encounter with the outcast of all outcasts: a Gentile in Roman country, demon-possessed and living among the graves surrounded by pigs. What Jesus does in the man’s life is spectacular, but the people from the town beg him to leave. What does this story say about the impact of spectacle on our faith? How does it foreshadow Jesus’ decisive victory on the cross? What might it say about our calling as his disciples?
