From Luke 13.10-21 comes the story of a woman bent over and unable to straighten up for 18 long years. While Jesus is teaching in a synagogue he calls her forward and heals her, prompting a rebuke from the synagogue leader. For all those who feel weighed down, bent over, and bound up, for all those who can’t seem to straighten up, what do we learn from Jesus’ healing this woman? And what do we learn about being the kind of community that gathers precisely so that Jesus can do this kind of thing in our midst?
