For Palm Sunday’s sermon, we pick up in John’s Gospel just before the Triumphal Entry: John 11.45-53. Jesus has just raised Lazarus from the dead and many have believed in him. But his actions are beginning to attract the attention of the religious leaders, who worry what his growing influence will cost them. Today as we remember the cries of “Hosanna!” we also look forward to the cries of “Crucify!” And we confront within ourselves all the ways in which we oppose the uncontrollable work of God, judging that it’s better for One to die than for us to have to change.
