“Everything is meaningless” doesn’t sound like good news. In Ecclesiastes 1.2-11 we get a sense of the tiresome, circular nature of the world. The rivers run into the ocean, but the ocean is never full and the water returns in the rain. But what if we could also read it as a promise about God’s inexhaustible love? Today we pray for rain, for ourselves and for the dry and weary lands we live in.
