Rachel Tyrrell preaches on the goodness of God by weaving together the stories of Job and Lazarus. In the hardships we face it’s fair to wonder what God is doing, or even to disagree with God’s seeming inaction. We have Job’s story in scripture to give voice to these impulses, as well as Mary and Martha lamenting before Jesus at the loss of their brother Lazarus. What comfort and hope can we find when we put together God’s litany of questions to Job with Jesus’ tears outside Lazarus’s tomb?
