For Lent this year we’re studying forgiveness: Forgiveness from God, forgiveness with one another, giving and receiving. Today we introduce the series looking at Ephesians 4.25-5.2 and Colossians 3.12-17. We know what true forgiveness is, partly because we can identify when we’re getting it wrong. The signs of someone having trouble with forgiveness can be pretty obvious. But the way we tell the story of the gospel is sometimes a narrow view of forgiveness too. So we begin Lent, a period of self-examination, with an awareness that our understanding of forgiveness needs to expand–and our practice of it too. This Lent we’re preparing to be forgiven, and preparing to forgive.
