As we have done for the last couple years, our summer service project will be a prayer walk. The concept is pretty simple: pray and walk. Ruth posted this link on Facebook that will take you to an article with some good ideas: http://pastors.com/prayer-walking-putting-legs-to-your-prayers/
Okay, everyone have the prayer walk concept down? Now let’s complicate it (because that’s my calling, apparently). As part of noticing our city, our neighbors, and what God is doing around us, let’s document what we see through pictures. Take some pictures–phone, digital SLR, pinhole camera, whatever you like–and we’ll share them with each other. What do you see when you look at our city? What do you think God wants us to pay attention to? We’ll use this as a fun activity that the kids can participate in as well, but one that we pray will help us to pay attention, to notice, and to see.
Find beauty, make beauty, and be creative. Find the tension between the way the world is and the way it will be when God’s done with it. We’ll also use some of the pictures on this website of ours (we’ve been stealing other people’s pictures of our city so far…).
So here’s the plan:
Saturday, June 28
Morning — Prayer walk
3pm — Potluck and night of worship at the Smileys
For the potluck, bring sides or drinks or desserts. For the worship time, we’ll start around 4 or 4:30 and kids can join us if they’d like to. Or if running and playing is more their style, that’s up to you. They are welcome.
Final note: No worship gathering Sunday morning, June 29.
